Steve Bruce to confirm Callum Wilson fitness tomorrow but Saint-Maximin and Schar back in training

Steve Bruce will confirm tomorrow morning whether or not Callum Wilson is fit enough to be part of the squad for the trip to Liverpool this weekend.

Wilson has not featured in any of the club's training pictures today but is believed to have been involved earlier this week.

However, Newcastle have been taking their time with the striker since his return from a hamstring problem, restricting him to bench roles only against Burnley and West Ham.

Wilson missed seven matches after feeling his hamstring against Southampton earlier this season.

But Bruce watched on today as Allan Saint-Maximin trained despite suffering a swollen ankle injury last weekend in the 3-2 win over West Ham.

And there was further boost as Switzerland international Fabian Schar returned to training with his team-mates.

Schar has also been missing since the 3-2 win over Southampton but is eager to be fit for both the run-in and Euro 2020.

Speaking about Saint-Maximin last week, Bruce said: "It was touch and go at half-time whether he came out.

"We hope he’s going to be okay.

"We’ve seen what he’s like when he’s on the pitch and he’s right.

"We’ll see later on in the week."
