Steve Bruce talks about 'cardinal sin' made by Karl Darlow

Steve Bruce must weigh up whether to stick with Karl Darlow between the posts for Newcastle United's clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

The former Nottingham Forest shot-stopper was, in the view of his head coach, at fault for the opening goal at Old Trafford.

Bruce admitted that Martin Dubravka was unhappy at not playing after recovering from a heel injury but being unable to win back his number 1 spot.

In fairness to Darlow he has been excellent this term and has warranted talk of an England call-up, but he has hit bad form at just the wrong time ahead of the spring internationals.

After the game, Bruce was asked about Darlow and said: "Karl has had a magnificent season so far, but he’ll be disappointed with the first goal in particular.

"Obviously, with goalkeepers, it’s the cardinal sin if they let one in at their near post."

In further comments about Darlow's position, Bruce also added last night: "We'll have a look at the goalkeeper, he will be disappointed to be beaten at the near post for the first goal."
