Steve Bruce springs a surprise with Newcastle United team news

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce recalled Paul Dummett for the Magpies' high noon showdown with West Bromwich Albion.

The experienced Welsh international has not starred since coming as sub against Southampton in the 3-2 win last month.

Sweden international Emil Krafth was also selected despite an injury scare last week while Jeff Hendrick started.

Ryan Fraser and Joelinton were in the Toon attack as Bruce looked for three points against the Baggies.

With Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson all out injured the Magpies were looking light in terms of attacking options in the starting X1.

Surprisingly, Bruce did not turn to Dwight Gayle or Andy Carroll - two of his most experienced scorers.

UNITED : Dubravka, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Hayden, Shelvey, Willock, Hendrick, Fraser, Joelinton

Subs : Darlow, Carroll, Ritchie, Gayle, Lewis, Fernandez, Manquillo, Murphy, S Longstaff
