Steve Bruce sends defiant message as Newcastle boss sees improvement ahead of Leeds clash

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has issued a defiant message ahead of their upcoming clash against Leeds United.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side travel to St James’ Park on Tuesday night, with both side’s desperate to end their poor run of form.

Leeds are without a win in their last two Premier League matches, and three in all competitions, while Newcastle have lost five on the spin.

While Bielsa is entirely settled in his role at Elland Road, there seems to be increasing pressure on Bruce’s shoulders on Tyneside.

Does no goals in three games worry Bielsa?

After Newcastle lost to Aston Villa on Saturday night, there were rumours that former Luton Town boss and current Bournemouth coach Graeme Jones could join Bruce’s technical staff.

When asked if he and his back-room team need some help on the coaching side, Bruce told Chronicle Live : "I am more concentrated in what we've seen.

"What encouraged me was to see Ryan and Allan on the pitch because, straightaway, we looked more of a threat.

"At the top end of the pitch, scoring a goal is the reason why Ryan, Allan and Callum are in the team. I think it’s the first time all season I’ve been able to see a glimpse from them. They will certainly make us better in that department.

"As we’ve said all along, that’s the difficult part of the Premier League, to create and score a goal.

"I was encouraged because those two coming onto the pitch, I know will make us better."
