Steve Bruce says Newcastle United will carry out investigation into major injury crisis

Steve Bruce has provided a fresh update on Newcastle United’s injury problems - and admits the club may need to look “deeper” into their issues.

The Magpies lost Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle to soft tissue injuries.

Brazilian striker Joelinton also sustained a groin problem but played through the pain barrier.

Bruce said: “Both Gayle and Dummett were hamstring injuries.

“Dummett is the other leg [than his previous injury].

“Joelinton had a groin.

“We’ll see how we are [with players returning] tomorrow.”

When asked if he would have to play the kids in the FA Cup game should injuries continue, Bruce said: “We already have two kids in the team in the Longstaffs as far as I’m concerned.

“Sean got his his chance because of injuries last year and is getting the chance again.”

Bruce then admitted that he will look at the situation behind the scenes due to a series of problems.

He said: “We have not changed any of the medical department from last season.

“Whether it’s bad luck or we have to go a little deeper to look at it we need to find out.”
