Steve Bruce sack odds change as Eddie Howe tipped to be next Newcastle United manager

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has been replaced as the bookmakers' favourite to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

Under-fire Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has now taken the dubious honour following the Blues' defeat at Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Bruce was temporarily made the favourite following United's emphatic defeat at Arsenal on Monday, a loss which extended the Magpies winless run in all competitions to nine matches.

The pressure on the head coach has mounted in recent weeks following a series of poor performances, but the 60-year-old has vowed he is the man to revive the club's fortunes.

However, this defiant stance has not stopped speculation mounting over his long-term future at St James' Park.

Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been named the favourite to take the hotseat should Mike Ashley dispense with Bruce's services - according to Paddy Power.

The ex-Cherries boss is currently 7/2 to make the move to the North East, while Mark Hughes and former Magpies boss Rafa Benitez remain at 4/1 each.

Lampard's future at Stamford Bridge now looks bleak following the most recent defeat at the King Power Stadium.

The Blues' latest loss leaves them in eighth position at the time of writing - five points adrift of the Champions League qualification spots.

Recent reports have indicated owner Roman Abramovich is already considering replacing the club legend with a more 'experienced' manager.
