Steve Bruce's warning to his Newcastle United players ahead of Morecambe cup tie

Steve Bruce has warned his Newcastle United players they don't have time to mope around after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

With games coming thick and fast, United must focus on the League Cup third round clash at Morecambe before the weekend's trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

After the loss to the Seagulls, Bruce said: "We have to repair the damage. There are other teams that play poorly and don't get the headlines we get.

"We have to roll our sleeves up and look to get into the next round of the cup.

"Everything is broadcast and when you don't play well enough it gets analysed.

"The level of inconsistency is something we need to look at."

Newcastle were 2-0 down inside seven minutes against Brighton but Bruce wants a response this week.

Bruce said: "We got off to a dreadful start.

"When you analyse the whole situation we are all disappointed by the individual level and team performance.

"We have to respond to it, we have done so before and must do so again."

United have received better news on Allan Saint-Maximin who picked up a first half ankle injury against Albion.

Bruce said: "Allan won't play at Morecambe but should be OK for Sunday."

Meanwhile, Jamal Lewis has suffered an eye injury after being caught in the face late in the game and Bruce hopes he is back in due course.

Bruce said: "He can't open his eye but there is no lasting damage."
