Steve Bruce rocked by DOUBLE injury blow as Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems out for the season

Steve Bruce has been rocked by a major double injury blow with both Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Toon head coach has confirmed that the search for a new left-back is under way.

When asked about Willems and Dummett, Bruce said: "It's what we feared, he has ruptured his cruciate.

"He's out for the rest of the season.

"It's not good news for Paul Dummett either, he has a tendon injury and is probably out for the season too.

"It's unfortunate as Jetro was settling in well and adapting to the Premier League.

"We hope for a speedy recovery and we will miss him."

Willems could be sent back to his parent club Eintracht Frankfurt, but Bruce said: "It's about the player's welfare.

"This is still quite raw.

"Our doctor has been in touch with his parent club.

"We will see what happens after his operation, whether that takes place in London or Germany we'll see."

Bruce was then asked about replacements and answered: "Because of what's just happened we are short in that area.

"We might have to do something in short-term.

"There are funds available and we are active."
