Steve Bruce rings the changes as Newcastle bring Paul Dummett back

Steve Bruce named a much-changed line-up to take on struggling Fulham at St James' Park.

The Magpies have been boosted by the earlier than expected return to action of former Wales defender Paul Dummett while Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie, Miguel Almiron and DeAndre Yedlin started against the Cottagers.

Bruce opted against started Ryan Fraser for the second time in the space of a week while Andy Carroll - frustrated after not playing against Leeds United - was back on the bench.

Isaac Hayden was also rested and only named as sub while Jeff Hendrick lost his place and Jamal Lewis was also left out of the starting XI.

Bruce had said before the game: "Can the effects of the virus and the disruption it caused be used as an excuse for the final 15 minutes at Leeds?

"No, not at all.

"We'd made enough changes to ensure we were fresh enough - we just gave away poor goals."

Newcastle : Darlow, Yedlin, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett, Shelvey, S Longstaff, Ritchie, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson.

Subs : Gillespie, Lewis, Krafth, Hayden, Hendrick, Murphy, Fraser, Gayle, Carroll.
