Steve Bruce reveals why he wanted to sign Allan Saint-Maximin so much last summer

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has revealed he could not resist the temptation to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice last summer - even if he knew the winger could be "hard work".

The French star's enthusiasm and energy has lit up the Toon dressing room and after returning from a hamstring injury he used his Twitter account to show the world he was ready for selection again with a spot of moonwalking!

Bruce will hope that the 22-year-old, who demonstrated he had all the moves with his celebrations after goals during his stint in Ligue 1, can now illuminate the big stage at St James' Park against Chelsea.

Bruce told the Chronicle: "We knew he'd be a little bit of hard work, but I said from day one he'd be the type of supporters off their seats.

"He's as naturally gifted as you can find.

"When you look at the games he's played in we have won a good few of them. He gives us something different which top, top players can do.

"We have missed him. It's the same with any team, if you take your best players away it will hurt them."

Newcastle have won seven out of 12 games that Saint-Maximin has been involved in this season and Bruce knows he's a key man.

Speaking about Saint-Maximin's social media antics this week, Bruce, with a simile, was asked if he thought the winger was a good dancer or not.

Bruce said: "By all accounts. I haven't seen social media but I have heard all about it."
