Steve Bruce reveals what happened in meeting with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley

Steve Bruce has revealed he has held a positive meeting with Mike Ashley at the club's training ground.

Ashley had not visited the training ground for some time during the Rafa Benitez era.

When asked about Ashley's visit at lunchtime, he said:  "Mike came in to wish myself and the staff the best of luck.

"He met the new centre-forward.

"He took an interest in training and wished us all luck.

"I think it is always key to have a positive relationship.

"You need to get on with the people you work with.

"I am not interested in what went on before.

"So far he has been straight.

"I have asked a couple of questions and got straight answers."

Speaking on Joelinton's arrival, Bruce added: "It is a statement from the club.

"We have done our homework.

"In today's market we feel we have good value.

"You need big broad shoulders to wear the number 9 shirt."

But Bruce does not want to stop here.He went on: "We're aware we need to do more.

"We are doing our utmost to make sure there will be one or two more walking through the door to give us a hand.

"It's all about improving the club.

"Talks have been positive.

"Let's just hope this is just the start."
