Steve Bruce reveals what disappointed him the most during Newcastle United's 3-1 loss at Liverpool

Steve Bruce tried to be philosophical in defeat after Newcastle United's woeful run at Anfield continued.

The Magpies were beaten 3-1 on a day in which Jetro Willems handed them the lead on Merseyside.

But two goals from Sadio Mane and a strike from Mo Salah added some reality to the scoreline.

Bruce said: “I am pleased with a lot of parts today, there is certainly improvement in the squad which is important.

"It was good up to a point.

"We scored a cracking goal.

"Yes they had good possession but we had a number of chances."

Bruce was impressed by Premier League leaders Liverpool.

He reflected: "They are very, very good.

"They are a threat and it’s why they are the Champions of Europe. The disappointment for me was the second goal.

"We made mistakes and it opened us up.

"I know our keeper will be looking thinking he could have done better.

"Liverpool were just incredible in the second half.

"It was just attack after attack. Firmino drops into those areas that no one else can.

"We were relieved when he was on the bench but then he came on and made all the difference."
