Steve Bruce reveals transfer plans may have to change as he responds to Valentino Lazaro query

Steve Bruce has revealed he may be forced into a transfer rethink after Jetro Willems’ “horrific” knee injury.

The Newcastle United boss - who is hoping to sign Inter Milan winger Valentino Lazaro on loan - has both Willems and Paul Dummett out injured for the foreseeable future and now needs cover in that area.

After the game Bruce said: “With two what’s looking like serious injuries, we might have to visit something.

"We’ll see. Today I’ll have to just digest all that."

And expanding on Willems’ problems, Bruce added: “It looks a horrendous injury for Jetro, cruciate is what we fear, he’s twisted his knee, and it doesn’t look great for Paul Dummett so in that area all of a sudden we’ve got a problem.

“We’re due a bit of luck, I’ve never known anything like it.”

When asked about transfers, Bruce added: “We are close to one or two things, we’ll try and let’s hope we can get them over the line.

“We are not going to bring players in for the sake of it, they have to improve the group.”

When asked about Lazaro, Bruce replied: “I am not going to mention other people’s players.”
