Steve Bruce reveals the four changes he will make to his team for Oxford - but vows to field strong side

Steve Bruce has admitted he will make at least four changes to his starting XI against Oxford United - but insists he will field a strong line-up.

The Magpies head to the Kassam Stadium aiming for a place in the fifth round for the first time in the Mike Ashley era at United.

Bruce, whose team have still not fended off relegation in the Premier League, is prepared to keep interest in the competition alive.

Bruce said: "We have Florian Lejeune and Fabian Schar, both will play - and so will the Longstaffs, who are both fit.

"I have said since I walked through the door that we would try in the cup.

"We have to try and go to Oxford and put on a show."

Steve Bruce confirms four changes he'll make against Oxford

Bruce ruled out Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto for the cup clash, while Danny Rose and Valentino Lazaro who weren't registered in time for the fourth round after signing late in the window.

Bruce added: "We will be as strong as we possibly can.

"Lazaro and Danny Rose can't play because they weren't registered in time for the first game.

"It's annoying because it would have been the ideal game for them."

Bruce will shut down the training ground after the Oxford game and hand his players his five days off.

Speaking at his Press conference today, he said: "Every team will give the players time off.

"It's not as long as I'd like.

"They will get four or five days off.

"But that's what we get for not winning the first game."
