Steve Bruce reveals Mike Ashley sent 'message of support' after Brighton loss

Steve Bruce has revealed he has held no crisis talks with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

The Sports Direct magnate did send a message of support to Bruce, but the head coach says the situation has not reached a situation of such severity that Ashley needed to get involved.

Indeed, Newcastle chiefs circulated a briefing that Bruce was safe the morning after the 3-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

When asked about his position, Bruce said: "He hasn't had a say at all. He sent a message of support.

"I have a regular rapport with CEO Lee Charnley."

Yet Bruce - who would net a big pay off if he was sacked - insists he is not sitting comfortably.

He said: "I never take anything for granted and I realise the performance was not good enough.

"You have to accept it and move on.

"Because we're in a fight the last thing I want to do is walk away.

"Certain individuals are entitled to an opinion but I am determined to see it through."

Bruce looked crest fallen after the loss at the Amex Stadium and after having time to gather his thoughts over the international break, he said: "Straight after a game you can't hide how you feel.

"There was a huge disappointment after it.

"Six or seven went away so you are training with small numbers.

"Spurs is now upon us so we focus on a good performance and erase Brighton."
