Newcastle United are dealing with a fresh injury blow after Matt Ritchie was forced off the field at Tottenham Hotspur in the 1-1 draw.
The Scotland international was being assessed after the game and is a doubt for the midweek trip to Newport County.
Ritchie had just regained his place in the starting line-up and played at left wing-back.
But Bruce said: “He’s done the joint in his shoulder.
"We don’t think it’s a dislocation, but it looks as though he’s done exactly the same as Fab Schar did, which will probably mean an operation.
"We’ll know more in the next couple of days.”
United also left out Ryan Fraser as precaution with the winger missing due to a groin issue.
However, it is not deemed serious and he should play against the Welsh side on Wednesday night.
