'I'm aware of all people are hovering over my job' - Steve Bruce on Newcastle takeover

Steve Bruce admits he has no choice but to get on with his job at Newcastle United - despite the air of uncertainty at St James' Park.

Middle East takeover talk has been rife on Tyneside since the country went into lockdown with the story dominating the headlines.

Bruce has guided Newcastle to a steady position in the Premier League and the club have stayed out of the bottom three since October.

After further takeover headlines on morning sports channels, Bruce told the Chronicle: "As far as I am concerned, it is very difficult for me to comment on because I don't know.

"I haven't got any answers. All I have done is read about it in the Press.

"In the meantime as I have said many times - whatever is best for Newcastle United then that's OK with me. That's all I want.

"If - if - it goes through let's see what happens after that. I am aware of all the speculation going on and people are hovering over my job, but I get on with it until I know different.

"That has always been the case with me."

Bruce admits that it has been tough for anybody to stay away from takeover talk in recent months.

He said: "You can't avoid it (in the media and on TV).

"Of course, there's also been nothing else to write about. What can I do?

"The reason I can't say anything on it is, you (the media) probably know more than me. You know what it is?

"In that respect - great - because then I can't have any other ideas out there.

"As I say, whatever is best for Newcastle United is the best for me."
