Steve Bruce reveals his parting message to Matty Longstaff ahead of loan move to Aberdeen

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Matty Longstaff will be heading north of the border to revive his career.

The 21-year-old burst on to the scene in 2019 when he struck and wonder goal which beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Premier League.

But he has since played just a dozen top-flight matches for the Magpies and is in desperate need of regular football.

After talks with a clutch of Championship clubs, the midfielder has opted to team up with former Toon star Stephen Glass and will also work under the watchful eye of former Celtic and Scotland star Scott Brown.

Bruce said: "Yeah it's happened very quickly.

"It is important for young Matty to play football

"It is a great opportunity for him.

"I hadn't heard the Championship interest, it comes down to an offer and Aberdeen have offered.

"Abderdeen is a good club and it's a decent place to play so good luck to him."

Bruce says that Longstaff's exit won't help him in terms of bringing in another loan signing.

As it stands, Bruce is considering registering four goalkeepers this season which would restrict his options in the last few days of the window.

He said: "Matty's exit won't make any difference to that because he's just 21."
