Steve Bruce reveals his big fear as Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin undergo injury scans

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is waiting on the results of scans from Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Emil Krafth after all three picked up injuries in the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Should Krafth be ruled out of next weekend's trip to West Brom at the Hawthorns with a shin issue, Newcastle could be without a right-back - but Javier Manquillo has at least started training again on the grass after an ankle injury.

But it is the potentially season-ending injury of Almiron, and the possible lay off for Saint-Maximin, who picked up a groin problem, that could hurt United most.

It could leave the Magpies without their creative force for the bulk of the last 12 games, and the crucial run-in.

When asked where the goals are going to come from if the duo's season is over, Bruce said last night: "We're going to have to (find somebody to get them) if that is the case, we're going to have to find a way.

"Our top goalscorer last year only scored six goals (Jonjo Shelvey in the Premier League) and we managed to find a way and get some results."

Newcastle already have Callum Wilson out until the nine games and he could miss games with the Baggies, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Bruce said: "It's been pretty brutal to us in that respect to our big players, so we'll have to get on with it an accept it and take on the challenge."

For now Bruce will learn over the weekend how much of a blow United sustained in another game in which they lost key players.

He said: "We'll not know until scans tomorrow. We'll have scans fixed up and see how he is.

"The way he was at half-time told it all, really.

"As I've said many, many times with Almiron, he's a wonderful pro and he was in distress with it. Let's hope it's not that bad."
