Steve Bruce has revealed he will tell five of his Newcastle United players the news they were dreading later today.
The Magpies are set to announce his final Premier League squad today and has admitted some players will not be getting a squad number.
Bruce has been forced to trim his squad down and said: "That's the Premier League rules.
"They have all worked hard but four or five them will not get a squad number."
Bruce will, though, name Andy Carroll in his squad, despite the striker starting the season still injured after an ankle operation last summer.
He said: “He does not have anything to prove as a footballer.
"When he got the move to Liverpool he was unplayable.
"We hope to get a few glimpses of that.
"He is a mature Andy Carroll. When I spoke to him he only spoke about desire .”
Bruce has also revealed that DeAndre Yedlin has not yet recovered from a summer operation.
