Steve Bruce reveals defender will miss Newcastle's opener against Arsenal

Steve Bruce has revealed he will be without DeAndre Yedlin for the Premier League's big kick off.

The American international went under the knife during the summer to cure a groin problem.

But despite training this week he won't be involved against Arsenal, suggesting new boy Emil Krafth is in line to feature.

Bruce said: "DeAndre Yedlin has had an operation and hasn’t recovered, so it became clear that we needed cover in that area.

"He (Krafth) will certainly give us that.

"He’s an experienced player who has been on the radar for some time.

"He’ll bring us the experience and know-how that any team needs."

Krafth will train with Newcastle today for the first time, and Bruce said: “Krafth hasn’t even trained with us.

"The other boys (Willems and Saint-Maximin) only arrived last Friday.

"We’ve been working on how we’re going to play for this game.

"We’re got one or two little injuries, but there’s nothing really to report."
