Steve Bruce reveals 'damaging effect' of Covid outbreak that could sideline stars until 2021

Steve Bruce admits that the Covid-19 outbreak at Newcastle United is still affecting his squad but has no fresh injury worries ahead of the home clash with Fulham.

The Magpies are looking to bounce back from the 5-2 hammering against Leeds United on Wednesday night at Elland Road.

Bruce hopes that United will soon be clear of the virus, but says he could have more absentees for the home game with the Cottagers.

Bruce said: "We have no new injury worries. We still have four or five missing through illness.

"For some of them it has had a damaging effect, it won't be a week or two it will be longer than that.

"We hope there's light at the end of the tunnel.

"Some are finding it a struggle.

"That is my concern as they will have been struggling for a while with it."

Bruce was asked about the defending at Leeds, and hopes that his team can deliver some balance.

Bruce added: "When we equalised I thought we had an opportunity to win the match.

"But when we went 3-2 down we can't be that naive.

"At the forward end of the pitch we have scored twice in the last three games, we are looking a threat at that end.

"It is now about balance."
