Steve Bruce ready to make public vow and see contract out until 2022

Steve Bruce is expected to reiterate his public vow to see his contract through at Newcastle United - despite dissatisfaction over his overall performance as manager on Tyneside.

Bruce will conduct his Press conference on Good Friday and has been told it is "business as usual" at the club's North Tyneside HQ.

The former Manchester United skipper has not been pictured at training in recent days but has still been heavily involved at the club despite rumours on social media he refused to take charge of last week's sessions.

United have released new images of Bruce with his arm around the shoulder of Javier Manquillo, with the Spaniard also put forward for interview yesterday.

As reported first on March 21 by Chronicle Live, Newcastle chiefs didn't take long to make a decision that Bruce was staying in charge after the 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

And since then very little has changed behind the scenes in terms of Mike Ashley's feelings towards the head coach.

United will begin full preparations for the home game with Tottenham Hotspur on Easter Sunday at St James' Park when the full squad return to work this week after the international break.

Bruce will face the media on Friday morning and will select then select his team ahead of the visit of Spurs after fresh backing from his superiors at Benton.

Despite calls from fans for Bruce to go, he is determined to battle on until the end of the season and deliver survival at St James' before going into the final year of the deal he signed in 2019.

Notably, though, despite the noise outside the four walls at United, Bruce was not told of any desire from the club that were even considering a managerial change after the loss at the Amex Stadium in their last game.
