Steve Bruce pinpoints key factor that he'll be reminding his players of ahead of Brighton clash

Steve Bruce has warned that patience will be the watchword against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Magpies go into the clash with Graham Potter's side looking for their first home win of the season but Bruce is expecting a tricky test against the side who are also under new management this term.

Brighton won the corresponding fixture last season 1-0 at St James' Park, and Bruce knows this could also be a tight affair.

When asked if patience was vital, he said: "That's the key to it.

"They (Brighton) are content to be in possession of the ball whatever area of the pitch they're in.

"We'll have to be patient and take our chances."

Bruce has tried to manage the expectations ahead of the clash on Tyneside.

The former Crystal Palace and Birmingham City manager said: "We understand the importance of the Brighton game.

"Brighton have had a total change of manager, philosophy and style.

"It will be difficult, they all are in the Premier League, however we're at home and it's a wonderful opportunity."

Brighton's Premier League form in 2019 is woeful with just one win in their last 14 matches.

But Bruce said: "They play similarly to us.

"They play three centre-backs and they are going through that transition.

"They had a wonderful start - winning 3-0 at Watford away from home - and they are a bit different under their new manager.

"They are a good side, but it's a big opportunity for us too.

"It would be wonderful to get a result which would give everybody a lift."
