Steve Bruce opens up on his admiration for Carlo Ancelotti and gives Newcastle United injury update

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has opened up on the admiration he has for Carlo Ancelotti.

The Everton boss takes his side to St James' Park on Sunday looking to return winning ways after being beaten for the first time this season by Southampton last weekend.

Ancelotti was named as Everton's new manager back in December of last year, replacing Marco Silva, who was sacked following the Blues’ 5-2 defeat to Liverpool at the start of that month.

The 61-year-old has won 20 trophies during his managerial career and is one of only three managers to win the European Cup or UEFA Champions League three times.

During his 25 years in football management, Ancelotti has managed some of the biggest clubs in world football including Juventus, AC Milan, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

And Bruce, who saw his side claim 1-1 draw against Wolves last weekend, had nothing but praise for the Blues boss when asked about him this morning.

"The way he manages, the success he's had, I'm a huge admirer,” he told Chronicle Live. “He's got a quiet calmness about him which just shows you there's different ways to manage. I read his book, which is a good read as well."

While the Newcastle boss has also confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles is a major injury worry for Sunday, but the Longstaff brothers, Sean and Matty, could both return to his squad for the game.

He said: "We have one doubt with the captain. He has a foot injury but we have 48 hours to assess him."

Before adding: “Matty has played a game and a half for the U23s and looks like he's over his injury. Sean has recovered from a bout of tonsillitis."
