Steve Bruce on trust levels at Newcastle United and his message to supporters ahead of new season

Steve Bruce hopes that Newcastle United's relationship with their fanbase has improved in the last week or so after the arrival of three new signings.

Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis and Ryan Fraser have all been signed up for the new season to go with goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick.

United supporters have been left in the dark on club developments over recent months, not least during the club's failed takeover saga.

With Bruce in charge for the new season and having a new squad to boot, the Newcastle boss said: "I hope I can re-ignite a bit of trust.

"My job is to improve us and make us better.

"If I stop knocking on the door (for new players) then I am not doing my job.

"So I hope there is a bit of trust.

"What I am going to try to tell the supporters the best I can is the truth.

"Because I think that then stands you in good stead.

"And fair play, I then need the backing.

"It is all right me coming out and saying these things, I need the backing to make it happen.

"We moved very quickly over the weekend and I'm delighted with the business we have done."

The bulk of this summer's transfer business has been done for Bruce with five new faces through the door, but there could still be a loan addition or two if certain players are moved on.

Bruce added: "I'l never say never.

"But I am very pleased with what we've done so far.

"When you look at other teams and the struggle it has been...I am delighted.

"But you'll never say never."
