Steve Bruce odds to take over at Newcastle are slashed amid reports he's 'under consideration' for manager's job

Newcastle United are staying tight-lipped on strong suggestions that Steve Bruce is under consideration for the Toon job.

Odds have been slashed in Bruce taking the job and there’s no doubt the Geordie would be interested in taking control of his boyhood team.

Bruce has moved into 3/1 favourite with Skybet – after being a 33/1 outsider before the day began – and he has now overtaken Mikel Arteta in the odds for most companies.

The former Manchester United skipper was on the club’s shortlist back in 2015 when Steve McClaren pipped him to the job.

After so far struggling to bring in a manager in the past fortnight, United are in a race against time to find a boss for the trip to China.

Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira and Roberto Martinez have also been looked at. But for now Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn remain in caretaker charge.
