Steve Bruce says he hopes to land a couple of transfer targets over the weekend.
The Magpies are in talks to buy Callum Wilson from Bournemouth and Jamal Lewis from Norwich City while Matt Ritchie could head to the Cherries in part-exchange.
Newcastle are also talking to Ryan Fraser and want the Scotland star to sign on a free transfer.
Fraser is on Tyneside with the Magpies losing 1-0 to Stoke at St James' Park today.
Bruce, speaking to the club's TV channel, said: "The good part is we have picked up no injuries.
"We have had a very difficult couple of weeks in terms of people who we thought would be OK after a lockdown.
"They have not recovered, ie people like Dummy (Paul Dummett) and Ciaran Clark.
"We have picked up two or three injuries which are unfortunate.
"Unfortunately Dwight got injured against Crewe 10 days ago and had an operation today and will be without for three or four months.
"We're trying to deal with it.
"All in all, it has been a very difficult couple of weeks - we can't deny that.
"However, we have one or two things working behind the scenes in terms of players coming in."
And hinting at the Wilson capture, Bruce said: "It's been publicised and all the supporters are eager to see it happen.
"We're close to one or two things so lets hope in the next 24 hours 48 hours we can bring one or two in."
