Steve Bruce makes frank admission after Newcastle's desperate 0-0 draw

Steve Bruce admits that Newcastle United weren’t good enough during the dire 0-0 draw against Norwich City.

But feels his side are showing good traits even when they’ve had an off day.

The draw lifted United into the top 10 - for Saturday night only - and Bruce knows his side can do better.

Bruce, speaking to Match of the Day, said: “The most important thing is we haven’t played well again, but we haven’t been beaten.

“That’s not a bad trait to have in the Premier League.

“But we all know we have to play better.

“We haven’t done enough and we are disappointed.”

With United sitting on 31 points with 13 matches to go, Bruce reflected on the lack of quality in the final third.

He added: “We set ourselves up to be difficult to beat. If you look at the record we’ve got, we’ve done fantastically well.

“Now we have to get a little bit of quality in forward areas.

“We have to improve in the midfield too because the strikers need something to feed off.

“We gave the ball away so cheaply today, which is is disappointing.”
