Steve Bruce links up with Newcastle United squad in Shanghai ahead of West Ham clash

Steve Bruce has now linked up with Newcastle United in China.

Bruce flew through the night before checking into United’s Shanghai HQ ahead of the clash with West Ham on Saturday.

Bruce has now met the players and will hold a team meeting at the plush Shangri-La in Pudong.

United trained in Shanghai today in stifling conditions.

He will face the media for the first time at a Press conference tomorrow.

Bruce has already started transfer talks with managing director Lee Charnley with £36million-rated Joelinton at the top of his list.

After being appointed, he said:  "I’m delighted and incredibly proud to be appointed as head coach of Newcastle United.

"This is my boyhood club and it was my dad’s club, so this is a very special moment for me and my family.

"There is a huge challenge ahead of us, but it’s one that my staff and I are ready for.

"We’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll be giving it everything from the off to ensure supporters have a successful team that they can be proud of."

And United winger Matt Ritchie ican't wait to get started under the former Manchester United defender.

"Steve Bruce has been in the game for a long time and played and managed at a high level so I'm sure he'll be fantastic for the club," he said.

"A really exciting season is in prospect."
