'He's had enough of Manchester City!' Kevin De Bruyne will sign for Newcastle, jokes Steve Bruce

Steve Bruce joked he had "exclusive" news that Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne will sign for Newcastle this summer as he hilariously interrupted the Belgian's post-match interview on Sunday.

Manchester City set up an FA Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal next month with a comfortable 2-0 victory at St James' Park.

De Bruyne, who was celebrating his 29th birthday, put the visitors ahead with a penalty before Raheem Sterling wrapped up the win with an exquisite curled shot from range.

The Belgian insisted he was happy with his side's performance and impressed by both City's attacking and defensive display.

"I think we played really well today," he said in an interview with the club's media team. "We dominated the game and we were really good in possession, but also defensively our shape was good.

"Except for the one mistake we made in the second half, we played perfectly. We could have scored more..."

De Bruyne wasn't able to finish his sentence as it was then that Newcastle manager Bruce appeared on camera to reveal quite the scoop.

"He's going to stay here and come here," Bruce joked. "That's an exclusive coming out of Newcastle tonight.

"He's had enough of Manchester City and he's going to come to play for Newcastle!"

De Bruyne has previously been linked with a move away from City, who are awaiting the result of their appeal against a two-year ban from Uefa competition.

And Newcastle - who are awaiting approval from the Premier League for a Saudi Arabian takeover bid worth £300million - have also been mentioned in connection with a number of high-profile players.

But as for the signing of De Bruyne? That will surely be a step too far!
