Steve Bruce is more interested in results than adulation at Newcastle United

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce has insisted he more interested in results than adulation.

The Toon boss opted against milking the win at Spurs by joining his players on the pitch at the end of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Instead, he watched on from the side of the pitch and waited to shake each player’s hand on the way off the field.

When asked why he hadn’t celebrated the win more wildly, Bruce said: “I don’t think that is that important to me.

“I hope they give me the time.

“Of course a lot is written and there’s social media, and we cannot control that.

“But the majority of the people I’ve bumped into on the street have held out their hand and said, ‘Steve, good luck – we hope you can do well’.

“I think that’s the vast majority of the supporters.”

Bruce’s decision to bring the players on for a Sunday training session courted further headlines last weekend after the 3-1 loss to Norwich City.

When asked on training preparations this week he said: “They’ll be in on Monday, and we will be working all week.”
