Steve Bruce interrupts Kevin De Bruyne interview to joke he's signing for Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce interrupted an interview with Kevin De Bruyne to joke that the Belgian midfielder would be moving to Tyneside.

De Bruyne was influential in City's 2-0 victory over Newcastle in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final, opening the scoring in the first half from the penalty spot.

That continued his remarkable season for De Bruyne but, with City awaiting a verdict on the appeal of their Champions League suspension, question marks have been raised on his future.

Indeed, De Bruyne himself has hinted that he could leave the Etihad Stadium if City are not playing in Europe's elite competition - and Bruce has joked that Newcastle will be his destination.

Newcastle 0-2 Man City: Steve Bruce post-match presser

"He's going to stay here and come here, ok. That's an exclusive out of Newcastle tonight," he said during Man City's club interview with the Belgian.

"He's had enough of Manchester City and he's going to come and play at Newcastle."

De Bruyne joined City for a then club-record £55m fee in 2015 and has lifted seven trophies so far in his five years at the club.
