Steve Bruce hints at loans for Valentino Lazaro and Nabil Bentaleb with duo unsure on permanent stay

Steve Bruce has hinted that Newcastle United could look to extend loan deals for Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro if they don't want to make their moves to Tyneside permanent deals.

The duo are set for talks with United in the next few days with Bentaleb's buyout clause due to expire today when the £8.6million price tag won't be available.

Lazaro wants first team assurances after spending a large portion of his time on the bench on Tyneside since arriving from Inter Milan last January.

Bruce handed Lazaro a start against Liverpool but he put in an average display against the champions.

Newcastle will also sit down with Tottenham Hotspur supremo Daniel Levy to see what the demand are for Danny Rose.

After the game, Bruce said there would be no face to face talks, he said: "I’ve let them go on their way because communication is so easy.

"We have to have conversations with their respective clubs and look to see whether we’re going to make any of them permanent.

"Or the alternative is, ‘Can we have them for another season on loan?’

"Let’s see how the situation develops."

Bentaleb took to Twitter after the game and posted a message to fans: "Thanks to all for the support this season in many ways.

"The road has been hard, not necessarily ending up where we can be.

"Always try to do better, time for a break, take care of your loved ones."

United led against Liverpool for 38 minutes on Sunday before the champions hit back to record a second 3-1 win over Newcastle this season.

Bruce pointed to the fact that Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Firmino were all part of one single substitution in the second half as an indicator of the gulf in class between the sides.

He said: "We’ve taken the lead against them twice now, and for large parts, I thought we defended well

"But when they brought on their front three, you realise just what quality they’ve got.”
