Steve Bruce has SIX players struggling with injuries ahead of the League Cup clash with Leicester City

Steve Bruce will hold a roll call at Newcastle United's training ground ahead of the EFL Cup clash against Leicester City.

A host of players are nursing knocks after the 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Jamaal Lascelles (calf), Miguel Almiron (ankle), Allan Saint-Maximin (hamstring), Christian Atsu (muscle), Joelinton (groin) and Fabian Schar (knock) are all doubtful for the second round encounter with the Foxes.

Speaking about Saint Maximin's hamstring, he said: "We're waiting to let the hamstring settle.

"The initial scans say it is not serious but we won't know the severity of it until later."

Bruce has still vowed to take the League Cup seriously, but knows he must use the squad against Leicester.

He said: "The exertions of Sunday have affected some, a lot had a difficult pre-season, while some are coming back.

"Lascelles is a doubt with a calf problem.

"Almiron is his ankle.

"Joelinton his groin.

"We have to assess them. But I'll pick a team that I think can get through."

It means that the likes of Federico Fernandez, Matty Longstaff and Yoshinori Muto will come into contention for the clash at St James' Park.
