Everything Steve Bruce has said about Dwight Gayle's possible Championship loan

Dwight Gayle will not be replacing Kemar Roofe at Leeds United or leaving Newcastle United at all this summer.

Steve Bruce told the media on Saturday afternoon he would keeping the striker on Tyneside and using him in the Premier League next season.

While there has been no serious reports linking the Whites with Gayle, some fans had put the 28-year-old at the top of their wish list because of his Championship record.

“I want to keep him. As I keep saying, you’re only as good as your strikers. In that area we need a threat and Gayle has always been part of my plans,” Bruce said, according to ChronicleLive.

The striker is yet to play a part for the Magpies in pre-season, fuelling speculation he was not a part of Bruce’s plans.

“It’s a calf injury and it’s not reacting to treatment yet,” said Bruce. “We hoped he’d be ready after China but he’s gone backwards.

“It’s a disappointment because I like him. I’ve tried to buy him before, but not been able to afford him.”
