Steve Bruce happy to hold on to DeAndre Yedlin - despite talk of January transfer window exit

DeAndre Yedlin could still have a role to play at Newcastle United this season - despite talk of a January exit.

The USA international, who is interesting Trabzonspor, is close to the end of his contract with the Magpies and on course to leave the club in the summer.

Reports of a January exit in the States have surfaced throughout the festive period with possible offers from Germany and Major League Soccer on the table.

Bruce said: "I have been absolutely delighted because he has come in from the cold after the problems that Javier Manquillo has had.

"He has grasped the opportunity.

"If you train well and work hard then the opportunity comes your way you can grasp it.

"I am sure there have been times when his future at Newcastle looked to be not here.

"We have three recognised right-backs/wing-backs with Jacon Murphy into the mix too.

"We have competition so I could not be more pleased.

"He's given us a glimpse of what he can do, and I am delighted for him."
