Steve Bruce handed massive fitness boost ahead of Spurs clash as Allan Saint-Maximin makes the squad

Steve Bruce has been handed a major fitness boost ahead of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Brazilian striker Joelinton and French winger Allan Saint-Maximin are both in the squad for the capital clash while Christian Atsu is also edging closer to a return.

Joelinton came off injured in the 3-1 defeat at Norwich and required an x-ray but he has now been given the green light.

Atsu could even travel to London for the Sunday encounter with Spurs.

When asked about availability at his Press conference, Bruce said: " We hope that Allan Saint-Maximin is going to be OK.

"It’s still too early for Andy Carroll or Dwight Gayle, but Christian Atsu has been on the pitch this week.

"It was good to see him and see what he’ll offer us.

"Joelinton is fine."

Bruce has also declared Sean Longstaff as fully fit despite starting him as sub last weekend due to fitness worries.

He said: "I detected he was a bit ginger with his knee, which was understandable.

"I had a conversation, it’s normal to miss a game or two to make sure he’s ready.

"When he came on, he had an immediate influence; we were much better."
