Steve Bruce hails Newcastle United travelling supporters as he rails against 'unjust' criticism

Steve Bruce says that some of the criticism he has endured has been “unjust” after taking the job at Newcastle United.

But he has vowed to keep fighting as boss with League Cup progress against Leicester next on his agenda.

Speaking after the 1-0 win over Tottenham , Bruce said: “I think we all understand criticism, but for me, a lot of it has been unjust and unfair, but the only thing you can quieten the storm is always to find a performance and a result.

“Nobody gave us a hope in hell’s chance, let’s be brutally honest, but the way they’ve performed defensively and on the counter-attack too was great to see.

“I’m delighted for the supporters, we can’t take them for granted.

“They’ve got a long way to go home, and they can’t even get a train.

“For them, I’m absolutely delighted.”

Bruce’s side played excellent football on the counter attack at Spurs .

He reflected: “I was delighted for the staff and the players in particular.

“We’ve worked on the system all week, tactics, organisation, and what have you. “For them to go and nail it as they did was brilliant, especially at one of the big platforms in Europe now, not just the Premier League.

“Spurs are a great side, with great players and a great manager, arguably as good as there is, so to come and turn them over was a big thing for all of us.”
