Steve Bruce hails Newcastle's 'disciplined' defending over Premier League penalty record

Steve Bruce has reflected on Newcastle United's penalty record in the Premier League this season after it took the Magpies until the 34th game to concede a spot-kick in the top-flight.

Interestingly, United have struggled to be awarded many penalties this term with Matt Ritchie's missed kick at Southampton the last time an official pointed to the spot in their favour.

When asked about United's record of not conceding goals from via penalties Bruce was proud of that record.

Bruce said: "We don't get many at the other end! I can't remember getting many.

"It's difficult because the game hinged on the first one, it was really, really soft in my opinion.

"There was very little contact if at all.

"For me it should have been overturned.

"All season we have been disciplined in our defending and let's hope it continues over three games."
