Steve Bruce gives update on Martin Dubravka, Matt Ritchie's injury and Ciaran Clark sale rumours

Steve Bruce has insisted there is “nothing sinister” going on with Martin Dubravka at Newcastle United.

The Toon boss has watched on as his goalkeeper was linked with Paris St-Germain but says he will be back between the posts against St Etienne on Saturday afternoon in the club’s final friendly of the summer.

Speaking after at Easter Road, Bruce said: “Dubravka is fine.

“He’s at home.

“It was always our aim to give the two other lads 90 minutes.

“Martin will be in goal in Saturday.

“He is our number one goalkeeper and will remain so.

“The stuff that’s circulating about him is not true.

“I’m delighted that we have Dubravka.

“There’s nothing sinister going on at all.”

However, there was a concern over Matt Ritchie’s fitness levels after he limped off with a hamstring injury early in the first half.

Bruce said: “We will know more in the next 48 hours.

“He has a hamstring injury and we will see after he’s had a scan.”

Bruce also played down talk that Ciaran Clark will be leaving the club.

He said: “I have had a chat and that is not going to happen.”
