Steve Bruce gives update on injuries and availability ahead of Rochdale FA Cup clash

Steve Bruce is hoping that Joelinton can shake off a groin injury to lead the line against Rochdale in the FA Cup.

Bruce has confirmed the game comes too early for Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle who are facing scans to check the severity of their hamstring injuries.

But Joelinton could be fit and Allan Saint-Maximin is pushing for the Chelsea game at the weekend.

Bruce said: "I am hoping he (Joelinton) declares himself fit. We are hoping this could be the game for him.

"Joe battled on with a knock and carried on (at Wolves)."

Speaking about injuries in general, he said: "One or two are back on the grass.

"Instead of 12 or 13 are concerned it's eight or nine.

"Dummett and Gayle are having scans. One is 10.45am and one at 11.15am.

"Allan Saint-Maximin is back on the grass but it may come too early, Jonjo Shelvey . . .

"We have a replay to play and we will go as strong as we can."

Bruce does have Rolando Aarons and Kell Watts back from loan but Bruce said: "Most of them are cup-tied.

"We let them play, it can't help us.

"We will name a team that will show the competition the respect it deserves."
