Steve Bruce gives his opinion on NUST's Pledge 1892 scheme

Steve Bruce has responded to NUST's bid to one day buy a stake in Newcastle United and get a say on boardroom matters.

The scheme was launched this week by fans and has enjoyed backing from Alan Shearer, raising over £20,000 on its first day via donations from supporters.

The long-term plan also offers a safety net to the club if they slip down the divisions and into dangerous financial trouble like rivals Sunderland.

When asked about the Pledge 1892 scheme, Bruce said: "I have seen it out there.

"I haven't really read a lot about it, or what it entails or the details of it.

"And of course supporters are entitled to spend their money whichever way they see fit.

"And make their own opinions on it.

"I have to focus totally on Burnley, but as I keep saying, supporters always have their rights and if they feel that is right so be it."

NUST board members have stated they do not want to seek a stake in the club under the current owner Mike Ashley, however, as it stands the Sports Direct magnate is not looking to relinquish any control, focusing only on a possible sale to Amanda Staveley and Saudi Arabia's PIF.
