Steve Bruce explains the Joelinton penalty and striker's revival

Steve Bruce has explained why Joelinton did not take the second penalty of the night against Man City.

After beating Scott Carson from the spot in the first half, the Brazilian discussed the second kick with Joe Willock before the Arsenal loanee scored at the second attempt after the ex-England man saved his initial effort.

When asked about why Joelinton didn't step up, he said: "I am a big believer, I used to take penalties myself and I believe there are times when you are not that confident.

"I always say if you aren't confident give it to somebody else. Whether Joe felt that way or Joe Willock wanted it that badly after five on the spin.

"If you are confident I am always open to it."

Speaking about Joelinton's overall game, Bruce said: "I think he's coming to terms with the language, the Premier League and to England.

"He's far better than what he was and we know there's a player in there - that's for sure. I'm delighted he's got a few goals now and looks a threat."
