Steve Bruce expecting Isaac Hayden to withdraw transfer request at Newcastle United

Steve Bruce is hoping to convince Isaac Hayden to stay at Newcastle United.

The midfielder handed in a transfer request last season as he wanted to live closer to his young family, but with just two weeks left of the window, Hayden is still on Tyneside.

Bruce has held discussions with Hayden to see if he can resolve his issues.

The head coach worked with Hayden at Hull City when he signed him on loan and when asked about the former Arsenal man's status, Bruce said: "I’ve had a really positive conversation with Isaac.

"That goes for a team that’s been together for a few years now.

"They’re a really good group, honest.

"It must have been a really difficult summer for them.

"They want to prove themselves."

Bruce then stated he wanted Hayden to remain, he said: "Hopefully, that'll be resolved.

"He's indicated to me that (staying on) is going to be the case.

"I certainly hope so.

"We all want him to stay.

"He is the type of player that I enjoy working with.

"Let's hope things can progress positively."
