Steve Bruce drops hint on Joelinton role ahead of West Brom clash

Steve Bruce has dropped a hint that he is ready to continue with a front two this weekend following the success of Joelinton's partnership with Callum Wilson two weeks ago.

The Brazilian laid on a goal for the £20million man before they combined again in stoppage time to secure a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Bruce is delighted with Joelinton's attitude after a tough few months, and, speaking ahead of the encounter with relegation-haunted West Brom, he said: "In Joe, I’m delighted for him.

"He’s found it difficult, there’s no excusing that, but he’s tried, worked hard, dug deep at times and never shirked the responsibility, so you want him to continue.

"I think it helps to have someone like Callum up alongside him to play off him or to the side of him, and not be actual the focus or the target man at the top of it.

"I think he’s done very, very well of late. Let’s hope that continues."

Newcastle are looking to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time this season with the last occasion Bruce won games consecutively in the Premier League as long ago as July when a 3-0 win over Sheffield United came after the three month lockdown, with a 1-0 victory at Southampton in March the triumph before that.

Against a West Brom side in awful form, United have a superb chance of making it two in a row.

Bruce said: "It’s never easy to get back-to-back wins in the Premier League – we understand that.

"We’ve got a wonderful opportunity.

"We’ve got to keep that consistency and that’s the one thing that everyone is looking for – where you find that consistency.

"But its’s very, very difficult in the Premier League, as we know.

"We’ve got a wonderful opportunity – let’s hope we grasp it."
