Steve Bruce discusses why Miguel Almiron was dropped at Newcastle United

Miguel Almiron was left out of the Newcastle United starting line-up against Manchester United because Steve Bruce feared he would be fatigued from a long-haul flight.

Almiron arrived back on Tyneside after a jaunt back from Venezuela after a World Cup qualifier for his country Paraguay.

As reported last night, Almiron is believed to be frustrated by being left out of the team for both the Man United defeat and the 3-1 win over Burnley.

The £20million signing from Atlanta United could come back into contention this weekend at Wolves.

Bruce said: "He didn’t play at the weekend, because he’d been halfway around the world – and just got off a plane.

"The game before against Burnley, it was mainly that people had come into the team and played well.

"I know Almiron very well, he’s a top player, and I’m sure he’ll have a big part to play.

"He’s certainly in my thoughts for the weekend."
