Steve Bruce discusses the "monumental change" that has affected Newcastle United dressing room

Steve Bruce is confident that the "monumental change" at Newcastle United can help push his team to victory at St James' Park today.

The Toon head coach says there has been an extra edge to training this week and the fact that a clutch of players that are just back from injury insisted they should be involved has been deemed as a good thing.

Bruce may name Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey and Callum Wilson in his starting line-up to give his team a different spine to the one that featured in the 2-1 defeat at Wolves two weeks ago.

When asked if the players have been motivated by the takeover breakthrough, Bruce said: "They are excited as anybody else is, as the supporters are even.

"They realise there has been a monumental change.

"And I am sure the players will want to prove they want to be part of it, to take the club to a better place.

"So there has been a determination in the training all week.

"There has been that bristle.

"There has been a change in the whole atmosphere everywhere.

"If they have anything about them which I am sure they have then they will want to be part of it at Newcastle going forward.

"That is the challenge to them too."
