Steve Bruce departs as Newcastle United manager as new owners make first big decision

Newcastle United have parted company with head coach Steve Bruce.

The decision, which had been widely anticipated, was taken before the Magpies' Premier League game with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The club are under new ownership following after Mike Ashley sold Newcastle to a consortium led by Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital and backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers.

Bruce had been appointed by Ashley in July 2019 and kept the club in the Premier League in his two full seasons in charge, although fans were unhappy at the team's performances.

The Magpies are without a win in all competitions so far this season, with the decision to look for a new manager taken.
