Steve Bruce dealing with a mini injury crisis ahead of trip to Burnley with two doubtful

Steve Bruce has been hit with a series of injury blows ahead of their trip to Burnley.

The Toon boss already knew that Allan Saint-Maximin was ruled out for the rest of the month but Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron have been struggling with muscle injuries.

Bruce is without Ciaran Clark (calf) while Ki has a knock and long-term absentees Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie are missing.

Bruce said: "Shelvey has a sore calf, Almiron's hamstring is a bit tight.

"We will see how they are today.

"We will make a judgement call after training.

"With muscle injuries you can't take a risk.

"If they pull up and they are out for six weeks we will all look stupid."

When , Bruce said: "He pulled his hamstring doing 38.6km per hour in the 96th minute!

"I don't think anybody has run that fast in the Premier League before.

"What can you do in the 96th minute?

"A footballer can play or train everyday but can't play with that intensity.

"There was no sign of Allan being fatigued.

"On Sunday we put him up the top end of the pitch alongside Andy Carroll.

"We kick ourselves but these things happen.

"He is explosive and when you play like he does it can happen.

"It is what it is.

"We have to roll up our sleeves."
